This weekend, the Windhover Center for the Performing Arts of Rockport will be closing out their season with two free performances by the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company on Friday and Saturday. The performances will mark the end of Windhover’s summer season and they come as part of a celebratory tour to honor founder Paul Taylor’s life and work following his death at age 88 in August 2018.
Taylor 2, based out of New York City, tours extensively and will be in residence at Windhover from Wednesday, September 4 through Sunday, September 8. Windhover and the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company seem like natural complements, with both organizations expressing demonstrated interest in creating ties with and meeting the needs of the local community as well as performing in non-traditional venues. While Taylor 2 is in residence, they will offer three master classes in modern dance. All are free (though donations are encouraged) and will be open to the public. The first two classes run at the beginning of their stay, and the third class will occur on Saturday before their last performance from 9:30–11:00 a.m.
Leading up to the final performances, open rehearsals for the public will take place on Thursday and Friday from 4:00–5:30 p.m. The final performances are Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7 at 7:30 p.m., and they will feature three works by Paul Taylor: “Images” (1977) to music by Debussy, “Funny Papers” (1994) to novelty tunes, and “Airs” (1978) to music by Handel. Taylor 2 will perform on Windhover’s outdoor stage in the back garden (weather permitting). In the case of rain, performances will be held in back dance studio.
There are no advance tickets, and seats are on a first-come, first-served basis. While there is no fee, donations are greatly appreciated. Venture out this weekend and come watch Taylor 2’s masterful and elegant six-person ensemble perform in the natural setting of the Windhover garden.
