Peter Floyd Magnuson

Peter Floyd Magnuson, age 81, of Cambridge, Mass., passed away peacefully Sat., Feb. 24. Born in Beverly, Mass., Peter was the eldest son of Dr. Paul Magnuson of Manchester-by-the-Sea and Dorothy Floyd Allen Magnuson of Manchester and Beverly.

His early years were spent in Manchester-by-the-Sea. During the War years, Peter lived at Mitchell Field on Long Island, then moved to New Bedford, Mass. The Magnuson family resided long-term in Falmouth, Mass., and Franconia, N.H. He was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy ’54 and attended Dartmouth College.

A lively intellect, Peter was known as a great conversationalist with special interests in philosophy, science, politics and music. He was an avid participant in the Cambridge folk scene in the late ’50s and ’60s. As a young man, Peter was a student of Michio Kushi in the then nascent Boston macrobiotic community. The macrobiotic philosophy and guidelines became an instrumental part of his life.
