Archie Lee Gillis, 78, of Inverness, FL died suddenly on April 3, 2015. He was born June 22, 1936 in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA. He served his country in the Army in occupied territory, Berlin, Germany.
Lee is survived by his loving wife Connie of 56 years, his son Neal, his daughter Cynthia Powell (husband Steven), one grandson Luke Powell (all of Lynchburg, VA), his niece Phyllis Sax of Bonita Springs, FL, his step-mother, Dorothy Gillis of Swampscott, MA, his sister-in-law Sandra Gillis of Manchester, MA, two nieces Kathleen and Kelly, an adopted daughter Kim Bear of Inverness, FL (husband Gregg) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lee was a member of Community Congregational Church in Naples, FL and sang in their choir and several others for 50 years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Gloucester, MA, the Moose and Elks Lodges in Bonita Springs, FL and Lynchburg, VA. Lee retired at age 52 after 30 years of service with the New England Telephone and Verizon Telephone companies. During his retirement he accumulated 7,500 hours of heavy construction projects for several Florida State Parks.
There will be a committal service at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, at 10:00 Am, followed by a memorial service at First Parish Congregational Church in Manchester, MA at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 19. The family will receive visitors following the memorial service at the home of Sandra Gillis, 150 Pine Street, Manchester.
