Barbara Doane, 70, died Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Kaplan House Hospice Center in Danvers following a year-long battle with cancer. Barbara was the daughter of the late Augusta Cook Doane and Raymond “Tighe” Doane. Barbara is survived by her son, Michael S. Chapman, his wife Doreen, and their two children Margaret Rizza and Nicholas Chapman-Rizza. Barbara also leaves behind her beloved life partner, Michael Drabkowski of Beverly, and sister Sandra Nicol, also of Beverly.
Barbara was born, raised, and educated in Manchester-by-the-Sea, where she attended First Parish Church, Congregational with her family. She was a waitress for 21 years at the Cabot Place Restaurant in Beverly, where customers were treated as family. She also chattered with and served customers, many of whom were locals and college students, over the counter of Big Fred’s Roast Beef in Salem for 5 years. She rejoiced in her time off, spending her time at the family camp on Ayer’s Lake in Barrington, New Hampshire and enjoyed the natural beauty of the area and the nearby White Mountains. She was an avid cribbage player, reader, and NASCAR enthusiast.
Funeral services will be private and there will be no visiting hours. A separate celebration of life event will be held in June for friends and family.
